Expressive art creation allows us to externalise and create a visual image or object in order to tell our story and view it differently.
A session may make use of clay, painting, markers, collage, wood, metal, music, drama role play, expressive writing and photography.
Sessions with an art therapist may involve a warm up art exercise and then a secondary or third creation of an artefact specifically designed to the individual Clients therapeutic goal.
It does not rely on verbal language as the key form of communication.
Qualified Arts therapists in Australia have a membership with ANZACATA and continue to undertake ongoing professional development and Supervision.
Creative Arts therapists are trained to understand how art mediums & tools may resonate or challenge a person. This understanding allows the Art therapist to support Clients 'safely' to explore emotional and therapeutic goals and reach positive wellbeing outcomes. This is particularly important when working with Clients with specific sensory responses and trauma related history.
Connect the Dots Art therapy is committed to providing quality services for best Client outcomes. This often means working with families, carers and other service providers with the Client's permission.
